We at Yooter always have an internal discussion regarding the merits of calling SMO a differing format than SEO.
Reading Top Rank Blog we see a list of 16 or so items that are called ‘social media optimization’ but this is exactly where we have the debate. These are normal traditional SEO tactics, hence why some of us at Yooter (I stress some) don’t believe in the concept of rebranding an old process a new name. But the process is still an old process.
Virtually all SEO firms worth their weight have been practicing these processes for years. This is what the debate is, it’s not the fact that these processes take place to SEO a website, it’s the fact that some are calling it a new name.
